Futures Cut Short New York Dr. Cesar Chelala To those rulers who send young people into the mouth of death, know that they are not killing machines. Soldiers are fathers, sons, brothers, sisters, who, when their bodies fall silent, will never again see their children, will leave behind truncated families, will no longer experience alluring dusks or promising sunrises, as their mothers and fathers will be burdened, forever, with a shattered future. Fallen soldiers—whom no children will run to meet when they return home— will stand as an indictment against those who sent them to their deaths, yet their souls will continue to bloom through the ashes. Dr. Cesar Chelala’s poems have been published in Argentina, Australia, the European Union, India and Japan. |
