AFIC Statement on Southwest Sydney Police Operation
24/04/2024
(See translation in Arabic section)
Sydney - Middle East Times Int’l: The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) is conscious of the community's concerns following today's police operation in Southwest Sydney.
AFIC, along with prominent members of the community, have engaged with government as a result.
We recognise that rumours swiftly emerge after such incidents.
"We reject trial by speculation" stated Dr Rateb Jneid, President of AFIC.
As more information becomes available, we will consider our positions providing leadership for communities and the wider Australian community.
Speculation will erode trust and only serve to divide communities.
AFIC, established in 1964, stands as the Peak Muslim Organisation in Australia, with 170 members including 9 State and Territory Councils. It has a rich history of pioneering numerous community services and actively advocating for the rights and representation of the Muslim community.
