Sydney - Middle East Times Int’l: Residents across Parramatta are set to gather and honour the Australians who have served our country to commemorate ANZAC Day on Thursday 25 April 2024.
On this day, our community remembers the Australians who sacrificed their lives for our country and over a million service men and women who have served in all conflicts, wars, and peacekeeping operations.
This year, the Parramatta and Epping RSL sub-branches are hosting several services in the community, starting with a Sunday Service at The Epping Club on Sunday 21 April from 2pm which concludes at Boronia Park Cenotaph, Epping.
ANZAC Day Dawn Services will be held at the War Memorial and Cenotaph, Prince Alfred Square in Parramatta from 4.30am and at the War Memorial and Cenotaph, Forest Park in Epping from 5.45am.
Bryan West JP, Secretary of the City of Parramatta RSL sub-branch, said ANZAC Day services allows the memories of those who have served in the armed forces to live on.
“ANZAC Day is the most significant event on the veteran calendar as it is a day to remember all the men and women who gave their lives in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions around the world,” Mr West said.
"We hope to have 3,000 or more people at the service.”
John Curdie OAM, Vice President of the Epping RSL sub-branch, said services were a chance to pay tribute to those who have served our country.
“The dedication and sacrifice of all Australians who have volunteered their time and, in some cases, their lives in defence of our nation's values and peace still hold the same significance on this special day,” he said.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber said ANZAC Day commemorates the courage and selflessness of those who have served in the armed forces.
“On ANZAC Day, we honour the many men and women serve in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations, particularly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Cr Esber said.
"I encourage everyone to participate in your local ANZAC Day services."
