AFIC Condemns Racist Terrorist Attack Near Paris
24/10/2026
(See translation in Arabic section)
Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l: The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) strongly condemns the horrific attack in the Paris suburbs of Trappes and La Verrière, which has left one person dead and several others injured, including a child. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this tragedy. French authorities have opened a counter-terrorism investigation into the attack.

“AFIC commends the moral clarity and courage shown by French President Emmanuel Macron in calling this attack what French authorities believe it to be: a racist and terrorist act. At a time when too many seek to minimise, excuse, or ignore hatred directed at minorities, such clarity is essential. The willingness of France's political leadership to confront this reality honestly is both welcome and necessary. Said AFIC President Dr Jneid.
We look forward to a thorough investigation, the full prosecution of those responsible, and the identification and exposure of any networks, influences, ideologies, or sources of incitement that may have contributed to this atrocity. Hate-fuelled violence does not emerge in a vacuum. It is often preceded by the normalisation of prejudice, the dehumanisation of minorities, and rhetoric that portrays entire communities as threats.

AFIC notes with concern the rise of anti-Muslim sentiment and hostility directed at minorities in parts of Europe and elsewhere. Regardless of political persuasion, responsible leaders should reject attempts to divide societies through fear, scapegoating, and the stigmatisation of religious or ethnic communities.

The Qur'an teaches:
"And do not let the hatred of a people cause you to be unjust. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness." (Qur'an 5:8)

AFIC stands in solidarity with the victims and their loved ones and reaffirms its commitment to combating racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and all forms of hatred directed at any community. We pray for the recovery of those injured, for justice for the victims, and for a future in which all people may live free from fear, violence, and persecution.
