Sydney – Middle East Times Int’l: The search is on for Parramatta’s local legends with nominations now open for City of Parramatta’s 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards.
The annual awards recognise the individuals and community groups who make a lasting difference in the community through volunteering, leadership, creativity, environmental action, community service and acts of kindness.
Residents are encouraged to nominate someone whose contribution deserves recognition, whether it’s a dedicated volunteer, community champion, rising young leader or local group creating positive change.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Cameron MacLean said the awards are an opportunity to celebrate the people who help make Parramatta a stronger, more connected community.
“Every day, there are people across Parramatta quietly making a difference to the lives of others and these awards are about shining a spotlight on our local heroes and recognising the impact they have on our community,” Cr MacLean said.
“Whether it’s a volunteer giving their time, a young person leading positive change or a community group bringing people together, we want to hear their stories.
“Community involvement is central to the awards process, so I encourage everyone to take a moment to think about the people making Parramatta a better place and nominate them. Your nomination could help recognise someone whose efforts often go unnoticed.”
Award categories include:
•    Young Citizen of the Year in honour of David Shakespeare OAM (16-30 years)
•    Citizen of the Year (31-64 years)
•    Senior Citizen of the Year (65+ years)
•    Community Group Award
Nominations are open until 5pm on Friday 30 October.
Community members are also invited to help select the recipients by expressing interest in joining the Citizen of the Year Awards Judging Panel.
Expressions of interest for the Citizen of the Year Awards Judging Panel close on Monday 26 October.
The Citizen of the Year Awards 2027 recipients will be announced at a ceremony in January, as part of Council’s Australia Day program.
