Deadly clashes erupted between armed factions in Gaza days after Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement. By Alisha Rahman Sarkar 15/10/2025 (See translation in Arabic section) Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l: At least 27 people were killed in clashes between two armed factions in Gaza days after Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement. Hamas, the dominant Palestinian group in the besieged enclave, clashed with the Dughmush clan in the Sabra neighborhood over the weekend in one of the most violent internal clashes in days. Al Jazeera reported that a 28-year-old journalist, known for his videos covering the war, was shot dead while covering the fighting. The body of Saleh al-Jafrawi, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest "for journalism," was recovered from the back of a truck. A source in the Interior Ministry in Gaza told the channel that the clashes in Gaza City involved "armed militias affiliated with the occupation," a reference to Israel. The source claimed that security forces surrounded the militia members and engaged them in violent clashes, resulting in the deaths of eight Hamas fighters. At least 19 members of the Dughmush family were killed in the clashes. The Palestinian Home Front, a Hamas-affiliated Telegram channel, reported that "a number of collaborators and informants were arrested in Gaza City after it was proven that they were involved in spying for the enemy." It added that the detainees "participated in the assassination of several resistance members." Residents described scenes of panic as heavy gunfire forced displaced Palestinians to flee their homes. One resident told BBC News: "This time, people weren't fleeing Israeli attacks, they were fleeing their families." The Interior Ministry announced that the clashes erupted as security forces worked to restore order, warning that "any armed activity outside the framework of the resistance" would be met with a decisive response. The report stated that the Hamas-run Interior Ministry accused a local militia of attacking its security forces, while members of the Dughmush family claimed that Hamas used the ceasefire as a pretext to target them for alleged collaboration with Israel. “The children are screaming and dying, and they are burning our homes,” a relative of the clan told the Israeli media site Ynet. “We are surrounded. I don’t know how they got in with all sorts of weapons. Where were they when the Jews were here? They arrested all the young men, stood them against the walls, and pointed their guns at their heads. There is a massacre here.” The Dughmush family, one of Gaza’s most powerful, has clashed repeatedly with Hamas over the years. Hamas claimed that Dughmush militants killed two of its fighters and wounded five others, sparking retaliation. But the Dughmush family told local media that Hamas fighters stormed a building where they were sheltering after the Israeli military destroyed their homes in Sabra, western Gaza. The building had previously been used as a Jordanian hospital. Hamas executed a prominent member of the Dughmush family in northern Gaza after reports that Israeli authorities had contacted the clan to coordinate aid distribution in the area, according to the US State Department. Hamas reportedly redeployed approximately 7,000 security personnel to reassert control over areas vacated by Israeli forces. Tensions Rise After Hamas Executes Collaborators Jonathan Spyer of the Middle East Forum discusses Hamas's execution of collaborators and expresses concern about developments related to the missing bodies. Mr. Spyer told Sky News presenter Chris Kenny: "We've just completed the first phase, and I'm very skeptical about whether the subsequent phases will be carried out properly or properly." Tensions escalate after Hamas executes collaborators "Hamas is still around, as we have seen in recent days. It began executing what it calls collaborators as soon as Israel withdrew from the Strip." Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is reportedly set to participate in discussions to lead a transitional authority in Gaza after the war, according to the BBC. This proposal, which will have the support of the White House, would see Blair head a government supported by the United Nations and Gulf states, before handing power back to the Palestinians. The project, called the Gaza International Transitional Authority (GTA), seeks a UN mandate to be the "supreme political and legal authority" in Gaza for five years. Organizers also reported interference with their communications due to the broadcast of ABBA music on their radio. A video shared shows a bright light piercing the darkness before a loud explosion. The flotilla, which set sail from Barcelona in late August and includes participants from more than 40 countries, aims to "break the illegal blockade of Gaza," according to its organizers, despite condemnation from Israel, which claims the initiative is "organized by Hamas." Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Portugal formally recognize the State of Palestine © Instagram @markjcarney Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Portugal formally recognized the State of Palestine on Sunday during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, in a coordinated international effort to revive the two-state solution. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that "Canada recognizes the State of Palestine and offers to work in partnership to realize the promise of a peaceful future," conditional on the Palestinian Authority undertaking fundamental reforms, most notably holding elections in 2026 without Hamas and demilitarizing the Palestinian state. This decision comes despite criticism from the United States and Israel. Washington described these recognitions as "showy steps," while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to combat these initiatives, which he considers a "ridiculous reward for terrorism." A leaked brochure for the "Gaza Riviera" project has been dismissed as an attempt to conceal ethnic cleansing. © Chung Sung-joon ∕ Getty Images The Washington Post published a leaked brochure detailing the White House's plan to develop the "Gaza Riviera" as a series of high-tech megacities. The 38-page plan includes the forced displacement of Gaza's two million residents and placing the territory under US control for at least 10 years. The Gaza Reconstruction and Acceleration of Economic Development and Transformation (GREAT) Fund is described as a "mass transfer scheme, marketed as development," as well as a "crazy" proposal that amounts to ethnic cleansing and genocide. Genocide in Palestine: Israel declares Gaza City evacuation 'inevitable' © Bashar Taleb ∕ AFP via Getty Images Israel declared on Wednesday that the evacuation of Gaza City was "inevitable," ordering residents to prepare for imminent displacement to designated areas south of the city. The announcement came as Israeli and US officials met in Washington to discuss the future of Gaza, despite no sign of an end to the genocide that has claimed the lives of 62,895 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Ceasefire negotiations show little progress, while more than 80% of the Gaza Strip is now classified as an Israeli military zone or subject to evacuation orders.
