Lebanon urged to make economic reforms

12/12/2019

PARIS-- The International Support Group for Lebanon (ISGL) on Wednesday stressed the necessity for Lebanon to adopt a package of sustainable, inclusive and credible economic reforms.

In the end of its meeting in Paris, the group called on Lebanon's authorities to approve a reliable budget for 2020 some weeks after forming the new government. It affirmed its readiness to help Lebanon specify measures should be taken and support, noting that the comprehensive dialogue with the civil society and the private sector is part of this process.

Lebanon is facing a difficult situation, which requires a rapid and decisive response by the authorities, the group said.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that providing any financial assistance to Lebanon requires forming a reform government. Paris hosted the meeting of the ISGL aiming to allow the international community to call for forming a government as soon as possible to take required decisions so as to meet the aspirations of Lebanon and improve the economic situation
