Relations with Kuwait are distinct, historic -- Romanian official

KUWAIT-- The Secretary for Global Affairs at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Monica Gheorghita Wednesday stressed the strength of the 55-year-old relationship between Romania and Kuwait.

This came in a statement to KUNA on sidelines of a preparatory meeting of the two countries foreign ministries' senior officials.

Gheorghita's visit to Kuwait was a preparation for Romania's Prime Minister visit to Kuwait, for fruitful results on both commercial and economic levels and to discuss the joint relations between the two countries.

On latest developments in the case of the disappearance of Kuwaiti citizen Mohammad Al-Baghli, she confirmed that Romanian authorities have been following the case continuously and seriously since his disappearance.

The Ministry is aware of the sensitivity of the loss of the Kuwaiti citizen in Romania, confirming the ministry's direct contact with his relatives through the Kuwaiti Embassy in Bucharest for any developments, she said.

For his part, Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister on European Affairs Waleed Al-Khubaizi said in a similar statement, that the first round of the talks dealt with ways of developing bilateral relations and continuing coordination in international forums, in addition to preparations for high-level bilateral visits, including the visit of the Romanian Prime Minister to Kuwait at the end of this month.

The two sides have discussed bilateral cooperation and the steps taken for a closer ties, especially in economic, defense, cultural, academic and health sectors, and to develop a business plan for 2019, Al-Khubaizi said.

The two sides stressed the need to work to activate the agreements signed between the two countries, as Al-Khubaizi expressed Kuwait's deep gratitude for the great cooperation of the Romanian authorities in the case of the missing Kuwaiti citizen Mohammad Al-Baghli, stressing the importance of continuing efforts to reveal his fate and return safely to his family.
