Khalifa Humanitarian Foundation’s journey of giving in Afghanistan

The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has a long history of giving and helping, and has been an efficient and basic tool to fight terrorism, extremism and poverty through promotion of education and rebuilding.

Reflecting the UAE's vision in humanitarian work, the foundation has played an efficient role in developing young minds by setting in place an educational system in Afghanistan, and also fighting disease and unemployment.

The terrorist attack on the guesthouse of the Kandahar Governor claimed the lives of a group of Emirati humanitarian workers while they helping Afghans. However, this would not deter the UAE from providing assistance to people.

Emirates News Agency (WAM) has monitored the main charity efforts of the Foundation since its establishment: The foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2009 with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), and more than 15 million people benefited from this initiative.

The foundation continued the humanitarian work in Afghanistan in 2010 and distributed aid to 1, 271 Afghan families.

In 2011, it distributed food to 1,500 people in several provinces in Afghanistan. Then it distributed aid to more than 500 families.

In 2013, it sent four shipments to Helmond province in co-operation with the UAE Embassy in Afghanistan. In the same year, they sent material assistance to several orphanages in Kabul.

Furthermore, a nutrition survey showed that the nutrition sufficiency programme funded by the foundation succeeded in eliminating a huge number of malnutrition cases among women and children.
