Morrison rejects Dutton sacking demands By Daniel Mcculloch September 20, 2018 Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he has full confidence in Peter Dutton, despite calls for the home affairs minister to be sacked over the au pair scandal. A Labor-dominated Senate inquiry has found Mr Dutton misled parliament by denying he had personal connections to the families wanting to host two European nannies he freed from immigration detention. "The Labor Party's about stopping au pairs. We're about stopping boats, criminals, bikie gangs," Mr Morrison told the Nine Network on Thursday. "If the Labor Party thinks that the worst thing that can happen in Australia is an au pair comes and reads you a bedtime story, then that tells you everything you need to know about their views on national security." Tony Burke, the leader of opposition business, said Mr Dutton had clearly lied to parliament. "Under our system of government there is one (offence that is the most serious) ... that is you don't mislead the parliament," Mr Burke told Sky News. "Our whole system is based on the concept that our ministers will tell the truth." |
