Safadi and Krenpol had a discussion on ways to address the challenges facing the UNRWA. The two sides reviewed steps being taken by the Kingdom and the agency to work with the international community to secure the necessary funding to meet UNRWA's budget deficit. They warn of the serious consequences of the continued inability of the agency to provide vital services to refugees in all its areas of operation. "Failing to secure the agency's financial needs means depriving millions of refugees of their right to education and treatment and deepening the humanitarian suffering of refugees," Safadi warned. Safadi and Krenpol agreed to intensify their joint efforts to ensure the agency's ability to provide education, health and relief services to Palestinian refugees in the it's five areas of operation. Krenpol briefed the foreign minister on the UNRWA's financial situation and the challenges it faces due to the fiscal deficit, which threatens its ability to fulfill its duty towards the refugees. The UN official lauded Jordan's efforts toward finding effective solutions to the agency's financial challenges and mobilizing international support for it. |
