On behalf of the Federal Labor Party we extend our best wishes to everyone observing the holy month of Ramadan.

The beginning of Ramadan signals the start of a month not just of fasting from food and drink - but for Muslims in Australia and around the world, it is a month of giving, remembrance and spiritual connection with God.

The month of Ramadan reminds us of our obligation towards each other in building an Australian community that values acceptance and selfless-ness towards fellow Australians.

The Muslim community in Australia has contributed generously to the values that are at the centre of our multicultural society and cultivate a sense of pride in our diverse country where differences are celebrated.

So as the sun rises and sets this month, we wish the Australian Muslim community a peaceful month of prayer and reflection.
