SAVE OUR LOCAL BUS STOPS AND

SEND A MESSAGE TO PREMIER BEREJIKLIAN

24 February 2017

Member for Canterbury, Sophie Cotsis has today stood alongside the local community to condemn the Berejiklian Liberal Government’s proposed closure of 17 bus stops across the Electorate of Canterbury.

The Government’s proposal recommends rather than trying to solve traffic congestion on our roads and improve services, it is easier to remove bus stops.

These moves are only going to make it harder for people to catch the bus.

“This move is just typical of this Government. Rather than try to encourage more people to use public transport, this Government just wants to make life harder for our local community” Ms Cotsis said.

“This is nothing more than a band aid solution to a much bigger problem the Government has no plans to address.”

The affected bus routes are the 412, 423 and 428 and the stops proposed for closure are on:

• Canterbury Road, Canterbury

• Permanent Avenue, Earlwood

• Earlwood Avenue, Earlwood

• William Street, Earlwood and Kingsgrove

• Homer Street, Earlwood

• Kingsgrove Road, Kingsgrove

Ms Cotsis is launching a petition to force the Government to reconsider this terrible proposal and to demand that local bus stops are not removed.

“Our community is going to fight this until the Government reverses this bad decision.” Ms Cotsis said.

“The Government is not making a concerted effort to consult with people with a disability, the elderly or our multicultural community,” Ms Cotsis said.

“These are the people who will be most affected by the closure of these bus stops and who may have the greatest difficulty being able to participate in this sham consultation process.”
