Lonely Planet lists Oman among the top countries to visit

 Aug 07, 2022

(See translation in Arabic section)

Muscat: The Lonely Planet travel website has ranked the Sultanate of Oman 7th in its list of top travel destinations for 2022.

“The Sultanate with its rich heritage and embracing society is a strong sense of identity, a pride in an ancient, frankincense-trading past and confidence in a highly educated future,” the website said.

“For visitors, this offers a rare chance to engage with the Arab world without the distorting lens of excessive wealth. Oman's low-rise towns retain their traditional charms, and Bedouin values remain at the heart of an Omani welcome. With an abundance of natural beauty, from spectacular mountains, wind-blown deserts, and a pristine coastline, Oman is the obvious choice for those seeking out the modern face of Arabia while wanting still to sense its ancient soul,” it added.

The site also recommended visiting the Musandam Governorate for its mountains surrounded by the sea, trips on wooden boats to watch dolphins, and a visit to Jabal Al Akhdar, characterized by mild weather in the summer, as well as Jebel Shams, which is the highest mountain peak in the Sultanate of Oman.”
