TUNIS-- A Kuwaiti military plane loaded by medical supplies arrived in Tunisia on Tuesday through an air bridge to help the fellow Arab country to combat the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The freight including 20 tons of oxygen and 400 oxygen cylinders arrived in Tunisia, which is in dire need of such supplies to combat the novel coronavirus, Kuwait's Ambassador to Tunisia Ali Al-Dhafairi said in a press statement.

This shipment comes within the framework of the air bridge, which is fruits of cooperation between the two leaderships, he added.

The ambassador thanked the Kuwaiti forces, and Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah for keenness on aiding Tunisia in these tough conditions.

Meanwhile, Tunisia's Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi lauded Kuwait's aid, saying that the assistance will be distributed to hospitals, in coordination with the Kuwaiti Embassy.

Tunisia has been witnessing a sharp surge in the pandemic, recording growing numbers of infections and deaths that put severe pressure on all hospitals.

Therefore, all hospitals are suffering a severe shortage of medical equipment and supplies, mainly respirators and oxygen cylinders.
