Oman and Iran reaffirm strong, historic ties

MUSCAT: Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Numani, Minister of the Royal Office, received in his office on Thursday Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, within the framework of his current visit to the Sultanate.
The two sides reaffirmed the firm, historic relations binding the two countries and the existing bilateral cooperation. They also expressed their joint keenness to continue dialogue for the good of the region to ensure its peace and stability.
Gen Al Numani commended the level of fraternal and neighbouring relations between the two friendly countries. He expressed the Sultanate's aspiration to further promote cooperation in all spheres.
On his turn, the Iranian Foreign Minister valued the efforts exerted by Oman in rapprochement of views, which positively reflected on the endeavours made in resolving the regional issues.
The meeting was attended by the Iranian Ambassador to Oman and the delegation accompanying the guest.
Later in the day, Dr Zarif and his accompanying delegation left here after a two-day visit to the Sultanate.
During the visit, he met with senior officials in the Sultanate. He also led the Iranian side in political talks between the two friendly countries.
The guest and his accompanying delegation were seen off by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister; Ali Najafi, Iranian Ambassador to Oman; and Dr Khalid Said al Jaradi, Head of Protocols Department at the Foreign Ministry.
