MESSAGE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER

CHRISTMAS 2018

Christmas is a time for all Australians to gather with loved ones, exchange gifts, share stories and remind ourselves about the joy of life.

For Christians such as myself, it is also a time for us to savour the message of God’s gift to humanity embodied in the infant Saviour, and to renew our faith. At Christmas, we recall the original Christmas message:

Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great

joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour

has been born to you”.

No matter what our background or belief, Christmas is a season of goodwill and thanksgiving. It is a time to count our blessings, and to remember those who are suffering, not as fortunate, or who are missing loved ones.

Across our land thousands of volunteers, charities and churches will prepare meals for those alone and provide gifts for those who might not have enough. In doing so, they are embracing the selfless story of the first Christmas.

This year, we particularly remember those communities experiencing the ravages of drought. If there is a gift our country needs: it is rain. My prayer this Christmas is for rain.

We remember this Christmas the great blessing of Australia. We live in a nation with peace and security, where people from around the globe, and from all walks of life, live together in remarkable harmony.

There is so much we can be thankful for.

Merry Christmas!

The Hon Scott Morrison MP

Prime Minister of Australia

December 2018
