Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l:
Ahmad Ouf is now crying foul, spinning facts—but he must ask himself one fundamental question: Why did the very community leadership that once backed him for council withdraw their support in his federal election?
Ouf assured us he would vote for the Muslim candidate for mayorship, our sister Ola Hamed at Cumberland. Instead, he went against her. He had the opportunity to stand with the community, yet he chose to preference Liberal candidates in the council instead and at a time when Dutton was at his strongest.
What did he do to earn our votes?
Even when he moved a motion in support of our Somali brothers and sisters, he failed them when they needed him most. When the Liberals debated rescinding the motion, he walked out of the room—silent, absent, indifferent. And when a Liberal councillor openly declared, "people don't like Muslims," Ouf left the mayor alone to fight for our community, refusing to utter even a single word in our defense.
Leadership is not about convenience. It is about courage. It is about standing firm when the community is under attack. It is about fighting, not fleeing. And when it mattered most, Ahmad Ouf was nowhere to be found.
We need leaders who are unwavering in their commitment to our community—leaders who do not abandon us when the battle gets tough.
