Michel Aoun: Lebanon is being targeted for a political change by imposing the resettlement of refugees and displaced persons...

Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l:
Former Lebanese President Michel Aoun addressed the Lebanese people on the 20th anniversary of the Syrian military withdrawal, saying, "Preserving Lebanon's sovereignty, freedom, and independence requires solid national unity from all of us, and a firm rejection of any project that threatens the nation's entity, identity, or social fabric." Aoun pointed out that "Lebanon has gone through harsh experiences throughout its modern history, confronting occupations, guardianships, and schemes targeting its stability, internal cohesion, and the effectiveness of its institutions. It has also faced persistent attempts to bring about demographic change in its society to undermine its pluralistic nature. Today, it also faces fateful challenges and major dangers stemming from the Israeli occupation of part of our land, persistent attacks that reach everywhere, and plots being hatched to implement a radical demographic change, complementing the 1994 naturalization decree. This aims to change the face of Lebanon by imposing the settlement of refugees and displaced persons, thus increasing the population density on its land, which has reached 575 people per square kilometer to date. This threatens not only its identity but also the state's ability to manage its resources and maintain security, preventing it from providing job opportunities and a decent standard of living for its citizens and limiting their emigration." He continued: "All of this is accompanied by external pressures, 'advice,' and recommendations under the rubric of 'support and maintaining stability.'" He reiterated that "a sincere national will and responsible dialogue without dependence on any external party are the only way to save Lebanon and halt the projects that threaten its existence and undermine its balance...and let everyone, from their position, bear the historical responsibility of saving and protecting Lebanon."
