An Open Letter to My Dear Community By Dr Jamal Rifi AM. (See translation in Arabic section)
“I write to you from the heart of my experience as a proud Australian, a doctor and migrant living in South-West Sydney, and a Muslim who loves his country and community.” A Warning About the Dangers of “Muslim Voice” for Our Community and Our Future. What some candidates and supporters of the so-called “Muslim Voice” movement are doing is not in the best interest of the Muslim community — nor of Australia as a whole. This movement is focused on defeating the Labor Party, even though its candidates have no real chance of winning. So, who benefits? The Liberal Party.
Why Should We Be Concerned? For the first time in 35 years, a Labor Prime Minister (Anthony Albanese) could be re-elected. Yet, “Muslim Voice” is placing hardworking Labor MPs like Tony Burke and Jason Clare at the bottom of their how to vote cards! Some of their candidates are even running against successful Muslim ministers and Palestinian candidates simply because they’re Labor. Bringing Religion into Politics Is Dangerous for All of Us. Mixing religion with politics divides our community and fuels racism and Islamophobia. This is not positive engagement — it is political self-sabotage.
Shocking Facts: Signing statements written by Hizb ut-Tahrir . Praising the Iranian regime as a “protector of women”! Placing their campaign posters on people’s homes without permission. Issuing threats to MPs like Tony Burke: “You can’t hide from us, T-dog”!
A Lesson from the U.S.: In the 2024 U.S. election, many Muslims in Dearborn Michigan voted against the Democrats — and Trump won!. Are we about to make the same mistake here in Australia?. Do we really want Peter Dutton in power, inviting Netanyahu to visit, as he said publicly?.
The Right Path Forward?. Labor blocked the embassy move to Jerusalem. Increased funding to UNRWA. Voted in support of Palestine within UN. ONLY a federal Labor government will recognise the state of Palestine. We have Muslim and Non Muslim ministers and MPs who are real allies — working from the inside. They viciously attack Tony Bourke who singlehanded gave the visas for Palestinians where Dutton has said he wouldn’t have given visas to anyone from Gaza?
The Bottom Line: Protest votes may satisfy emotions, but they don't deliver political results. Our true representation must come from within positions of influence — not from the fringes. Let’s not allow ourselves to be divided. Let’s not allow the suffering in Gaza to be used for political gain. For Australia. For Palestine. For our children. Engage wisely… vote thoughtfully.
