AFIC Welcomes Visa Cancellation of Neo-Nazi Protester by Minister Tony Burke 19/11/2025 (See translation in Arabic section) Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l: The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) welcomes the decision by Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon Tony Burke MP, to cancel the visa of South African national Matthew Gruter, who participated in the recent neo-Nazi rally outside the NSW Parliament. This is an appropriate and necessary response. Neo-Nazi ideology represents a direct threat to the safety and cohesion of our society. Such actions are an incitement to hate, rooted in violence and racism, and must be met with clear consequences. “We commend Minister Burke for taking a principled stand against those who seek to promote hate and division in our country,” said Dr Rateb Jneid, President of AFIC. “Australia must remain vigilant against the spread of violent ideologies, and this action sends a strong message that we will not allow our freedoms to be exploited to legitimise fascism.” AFIC continues to call for a consistent and firm approach to all forms of extremism, including white supremacy, Islamophobia, and racially motivated violence, and supports the use of immigration and national security powers to protect the rights, safety, and dignity of all Australians. ________________________________________ AFIC, established in 1964, stands as the Peak Muslim Organisation in Australia, with 170 members including 9 State and Territory Councils. It has a rich history of pioneering numerous community services and actively advocating for the rights and representation of the Muslim community. Authorised: Dr Rateb Jneid, President |
