Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l:
The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on his historic re-election and the clear mandate entrusted to him by the Australian people.
This decisive victory reflects the nation’s aspiration for leadership grounded in fairness, inclusion, and integrity. It is a powerful affirmation that Australians reject the politics of division and fear, and embrace a vision of unity and shared prosperity.
As Prime Minister Albanese embarks on this renewed term of leadership, AFIC calls on his government to seize this moment as an opportunity to take principled stances on key issues that matter deeply to the Muslim community and to all Australians who care about justice and human rights.
Among these priorities are:
•    A principled stand on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, advocating for peace, justice, and meaningful action to alleviate suffering.
•    Stronger measures to combat racism and Islamophobia, ensuring that every Australian, regardless of faith or background, can live free from discrimination and hatred.
•    A steadfast commitment to protecting civil liberties and democratic freedoms, particularly in an era of increasing social and political polarisation.
AFIC President, Dr. Rateb Jneid, urged the government to lead with courage and moral clarity stating, “This election offers an unprecedented opportunity to chart a path defined by justice, compassion, and accountability. We call on the Prime Minister and his government to not only hear the concerns of the Muslim community but to act decisively on the principles of human rights and equality. AFIC stands ready to work collaboratively with this government to ensure these values are upheld for the good of all Australians.”
AFIC looks forward to engaging constructively with the Prime Minister and his team in advancing a shared vision of an inclusive, just, and harmonious Australia.
