Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l:
The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) today calls on the Australian Muslim community to participate actively and purposefully in tomorrow’s federal election, urging every eligible voter to reflect deeply on their choices at the ballot box.
As a community, we face critical issues, both here in Australia and globally, that demand not only our attention but our collective action. The ongoing genocide in Gaza, the rise of racism and Islamophobia, and the erosion of civil liberties are not abstract concerns they are lived realities that must inform how we vote and who we entrust with power.
There is more information than ever before available to voters. We encourage every member of our community to seek out credible sources, examine not only the promises and rhetoric of political parties and candidates but also their track records and actions. Voting is not merely a right but also a responsibility, a tool to hold elected representatives accountable and to advocate for justice, equity, and dignity.
AFIC President, Dr Rateb Jneid, emphasised the importance of intentional and informed voting, “This election is an opportunity for our community to send a clear message to those who govern us that we will not stand by as injustices continue, whether abroad or at home. Our votes must reflect our values, our conscience, and our unwavering commitment to human rights. I urge every Muslim Australian to approach this election with purpose, with courage, and with clarity.”
While elections are just one means of engagement, they are a powerful way for our community to make our voices heard and to shape the future for ourselves and our children. We must not squander this opportunity.
Let us vote with integrity. Let us vote with purpose. Let us make it count.
