Sydney-Middle East Times Int'l:
The City of Parramatta calls on all major political parties to commit to funding key city shaping projects to accelerate the transformation of one of the fastest growing global cities in Australia.
Investment in the Riverside Theatres Redevelopment, a High-Speed Rail station, the extension of Sydney Metro West to the Western Sydney Airport, and an additional Metro station between Camellia and Rosehill, are some of the key projects included in Council’s new document Parramatta Projects: Opportunities to Accelerate.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor, Cr Martin Zaiter said the Federal Election comes at a critical turning point for Parramatta and funding is needed now to deliver the critical infrastructure and projects essential for Parramatta’s rapidly growing population.
“By 2050, Parramatta will be home to up to 500,000 people with more people living to our west than to our east. Our growing community deserves the essential services, spaces and support they need to live well now and in the future,” Cr Zaiter said.
“Not only will these projects transform Parramatta, they will benefit all of Greater Sydney, by creating thousands of new jobs, reducing travel times and improving the lives of local families.”
Cr Zaiter also calls for investment in transport connections between Epping and Parramatta CBD, a contemporary music university campus, a regional centre for excellence in sport and flood proofing the City.
“Our global City makes up nearly 4% of the State’s gross economy, producing more than $28 billion of Gross Regional Product,” Cr Zaiter said.
“We are doing the heavy lifting – we call on all levels of government to get behind the future of Greater Sydney here in its geographical heart, Parramatta.
“We’re open for business – if governments want the economies of Greater Sydney and NSW to grow, Parramatta is the smartest place for the public and private sectors to invest.”
Cr Zaiter thanked both the NSW and Federal Government for investments to date, including Civic Link Stage 3, PHIVE and PAC, but said additional funding for these transformational projects is more important than ever this election.
Calling all candidates - investment ...
“2050 is only 25 years away and projects such as High-Speed Rail and Metro extensions require years of planning and hard work to become a reality,” Cr Zaiter said.
“The time to invest in Parramatta is now.”
