Muscat: Oman has been ranked seventh best global destination to travel in 2022 by Lonely Planet.

“For visitors, this offers a rare chance to engage with the Arab world without the distorting lens of excessive wealth. Oman's low-rise towns retain their traditional charms, and Bedouin values remain at the heart of an Omani welcome. With an abundance of natural beauty, from spectacular mountains, wind-blown deserts, and a pristine coastline, Oman is the obvious choice for those seeking out the modern face of Arabia while wanting still to sense its ancient soul,” Lonely Planet said.

Cook Islands, Norway, and Mauritius has been ranked in the top three countries to visit followed by Belize, Malawi, Slovenia, Anguilla, Oman, Nepal, Malawi and Egypt.

“With an abundance of natural beauty, from spectacular mountains, wind-blown deserts and a pristine coastline, Oman is the obvious choice for those seeking out the modern face of Arabia while wanting still to sense its ancient soul,” Lonely Planet said.

“The Sultanate of Oman with its rich heritage and embracing society is a strong sense of identity, a pride in an ancient, frankincense-trading past and confidence in a highly educated future,” it said.

The site also recommended visiting the Musandam Governorate for its mountains surrounded by the sea, trips on wooden boats to watch dolphins, and a visit to Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, characterised by mild weather in the summer, as well as Jabal Shams, which is the highest mountain peak in the Sultanate of Oman.”

Oman is chock full of adventurous activities to enjoy during the cooler months and calm beaches where you can cool off during the scorching-hot summer months, the travel guide publisher said

The best time to visit this desert country is typically from October through March, when the weather is close to perfect for activities including hiking and camping at the beach. No matter when you decide to go, the “Pearl of Arabia” offers plenty of things to do and sights to visit, from historic castles and forts to Unesco World Heritage Sites such as Al Baleed Archaeological Park, it recommended.
