KUWAIT-- The State of Kuwait handed over to the Iraqi authorities the remains of a missing Iraqi found last February on Boubyan Island, north of the country, Rabee Al-Adsani, chairman of the Foreign Ministry's Prisoners and Missing Committee said Tuesday. Al-Adsani told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), on the sidelines of the handover ceremony, that this cooperation came from Kuwait keenness to deal transparently with humanitarian issues.

Kuwait through the efforts of the tripartite committee and the protocols signed in this regard, as well as information provided by the British and American sides, cooperated in searching for burial sites for missing Iraqis in Kuwait, he added.

Kuwait previously has handed over the Iraqi side, more than once, remains that were found in the country, as this time considered a continuation of several times that started in 1999, as the last handover was in 2013, he said.

The efforts will continue to determine the fate of all missing, Al-Adsani said, where he also expressed Kuwait's hope to define the fate of all prisoners and missing persons in Iraq.

For his part, Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Legal Affairs Ambassador Dr. Qahtan Al-Janabi stressed in a similar statement to KUNA the continuation of cooperation between the two countries to resolve files, develop and strengthen bilateral relations.

"We are currently in Kuwait to deliver a shipment of Kuwaiti archive, as well as receive the remains of the missing Iraqi," he said.

Both countries have many historical and geographical ties in various fields where this step and similar activities are to strengthen relations between the two countries, he added.
