Strong Lebanon: Stiff attitudes will thwart French initiative, plunge country into open crisis 22 Sep 2020 Lebanon - - The "Strong Lebanon" parliamentary bloc held its periodic meeting this Tuesday, under the chairmanship of MP Gebran Bassil, with talks touching on the process of forming the government and the obstacles hindering its birth. The bloc warned that inflexible stances would thwart the French initiative and plunge the country into an open crisis "at a time when it is most in need of a productive and effective reformist government that opens the door to agreement with the International Monetary Fund and with countries willing to support Lebanon, otherwise the country will surely step into the unknown." The bloc, one again, suggested the adoption of "President Aoun's proposal regarding the liberation of what is known as sovereign portfolios from sectarian distribution," declaring that "it has made all possible efforts to neutralize the government from the current local quarrels and international and regional scams." |
