Kuwait is keen to support ILO's technical program: Amb. Al-Ghunaim

GENEVA-- Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim assured Monday keenness of the State of Kuwait to support the technical cooperation program run by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in the Middle East.

Al-Ghunaim's statements came during a meeting with ILO's Director General Guy Ryder at the organization's headquarters in which both sides discussed issues of common interest.

Ambassador Al-Ghunaim noted that Kuwait's support comes as part of its efforts to help Palestinian people overcome the difficult economic conditions they suffer because of the Israeli occupation.

At the same time, Al-Ghunaim praised the role of ILO in adopting the Palestinian workers' crisis in its annual report, which will be reviewed periodically before the annual conference of the organization.

He explained that coordination between Kuwait and ILO is carried out smoothly and constructively through its regional office in Beirut, where mechanisms have been created to enhance this cooperation and serve the reputation of the State of Kuwait within the International Labor Organization.

During the meeting, Rider expressed his gratitude for the role of the State of Kuwait in humanitarian affairs, especially its hosting of a number of conferences related to supporting humanitarian operations in Syria, said Al-Ghunaim.

For his part, Ryder praised Kuwait's role in preparing for the upcoming conference for reconstructing liberated areas in Iraq from the grip of the so-called Islamic State or ISIL.

He expressed his interest in the participation of the ILO in this conference, to be hosted by Kuwait in mid-February, stressing that the role played by Kuwait has become a model for how to deal with humanitarian crises.

He noted that the efforts made by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AL-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, represent a ray of hope amidst all these crises, through his role in humanitarian work which is appreciated by all.
