Kuwait mediation is very important - Senior MEP


BRUSSELS-- Chairperson of the European Parliament (EP) delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula Michele Alliot-Marie underlined her full support to Kuwaiti mediation to resolve the Gulf crisis.

"Kuwait mediation is very, very important. First of all, it is accepted by both parties; that is a real necessity for mediation," Alliot-Marie said Monday.

"Secondly, we in the European Union know that we cannot be in the first role for that. We can help if asked. But the solution is a local solution," she added.

Alliot-Marie had served as France's foreign and European affairs minister from 2010 to 2011, minister of justice (2009-2010) and minister of defence (2002-2007) before being elected to the EP in 2014.
