CONGRATULATIONS TO JOHN AJAKA

CONGRATULATIONS TO JOHN AJAKA

21  February 2017

(Translation of this article appears in Arabic section)

I would like to congratulate the Hon. John Ajaka MLC on his election to the position of President of the Legislative Council today.

I have full confidence that Mr Ajaka will be an excellent leader in presiding over the Legislative Council and, along with the Speaker in the Lower House, he will be responsible for the oversight of the smooth running of Parliament.

Mr Ajaka was an outstanding Minister for Multiculturalism and in his new role he will build on these links to liaise with dignitaries and communities on behalf of the Parliament.

Mr Ajaka brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as a member of the NSW Legislative Council since 2007.

Over his decade in Parliament, Mr Ajaka has served as a member and chair on a number of committees; Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads; and as a Minister across a range of portfolios, including Multiculturalism, Ageing, Disability Services and the Illawarra as well as the Minister responsible for Youth and Volunteering.

I am excited by this appointment and look forward to working closely with President Ajaka as he carries out his important responsibilities.
