KRCS distributes 1,000 Iftar meals to Syrian refugees in E. Lebanon

BEIRUT-- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) continued on Thursday handing out more than 1,000 Iftar (fast-breaking) meals and relief aid to Syrian refugees in eastern Lebanon.

This is part of the Society's aid provided to the refugees during the holy month of Ramadan that includes food and in-kind assistance, in addition to the projects of bread distribution and dialysis services offered throughout the year.

In a statement to KUNA, head of KRCS' team Abdullah Jomaa said today's aid was directed to Syrian refugees living in camps across the area of Zahla in eastern Lebanon.

In doing that KRCS enlists the assistance of the Lebanese Red Cross Society, he said.

Jomaa stressed Kuwait's keenness on supporting needy people as part of its humanitarian role on the international level.

He affirmed that the problem of refugees needs concerted efforts by humanitarian institutions and donors to put an end to the suffering of Syrian people.

The KRCS has been seeking to mitigate, as much as possible, suffering of refugees facing tough conditions, he noted.

Relief Operations Coordinator of the Lebanese Red Cross Yusuf Botrous told KUNA that the humanitarian assistance of KRCS is enormously appreciated by the Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

KRCS has launched since the start of Ramadan a campaign to distribute no less than 30,000 Iftar meals to Syrian refugees in various parts of Lebanon.

UN records show that up to 70 percent of these refugees live below the poverty line, having to put up with harsh living conditions.
