Former Assembly speaker Khorafi passes away at 75

KUWAIT: Former National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi passed away yesterday aged 75. He was a veteran statesman who contributed towards the development of Kuwait in both the political and economic domains. He was elected to the National Assembly nine times from 1975 till 2009. A former minister of finance, Khorafi was speaker of the house from 1999 till 2011.
A father of six children, Khorafi was born in 1940 in the Qibla district of Kuwait City in an eminent merchant family. He is the son of Mohammad Abdul Mohsen Al-Khorafi, the founder of the Kharafi Group.
