In 2003, Prince Alwaleed had donated through Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation-Global (Registered in Lebanon) that is chaired by His Highness, shipments of humanitarian aid to Ethiopia to help alleviate the suffering of Ethiopians during the drought and famine crisis there. The donation--weighing 105 tons comprised of food supplies boxed in 5,250 individual containers. Each box contained non-perishable foodstuffs including sugar, rice, wheat, edible oil, and powdered milk. Three cargo planes airlifted the donation from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to Addis Ababa’s Airport in Ethiopia, where it was received by the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Ethiopia.
