Minister of Interior announces results of Lebanon’s 2022 parliamentary elections

17/05/2022

(See translation in Arabic section)

Lebanon - Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, announced on Monday evening the winners in some districts in Lebanon’s 2022 parliamentary elections, pending the results of the remaining districts.

“Despite all the difficulties and skepticism, we were able to hold elections successfully,” Mawlawi said.

“All the skepticism campaigns that accompanied the sorting of results did not affect our work, nor that of officials and judges, who worked day and night to carry out their patriotic duty, to contribute to the salvation of the country, and to issue the results,” he said.

“The voting rates are not low but rather good, and they are almost similar or slightly lower than the percentages of previous elections,” Mawlawi added.

Mawlawi announced a number of legislative elections’ vote count results .

THE LATEST POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS ABOUT THE SITUATION IN LEBANON AND THE LEBANESE PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS FROM EUROPE AND THE VATICAN

A high-ranking European official admitted today in Brussels, without naming him, the superiority of the Free Patriotic Movement over all Lebanese parties.

Today, a cardinal who is very close to the Supreme Pontiff also concedes the superiority of the Free Patriotic Movement over all Lebanese Christian political parties, saying, strongly condemning, that the Holy Cross (crossed out) should not be exploited and used as a symbol or as a political slogan by Lebanon's Christian political party, vowing to take the necessary measures after the elections. To prevent him from using it, recalling what our Lord Jesus did to the temple merchants when he expelled them from it!

He added, We know who the reference of each of the Catholic and Christian Maronite parties in Lebanon is. And from where do they receive financial support and political orders, and he admitted that the Free Patriotic Movement is the only Christian party with clean palm and national sovereignty without any foreign reference, and its only reference is the Lebanese people and the Lebanese law and legitimacy, adding that it is the only one that demands criminal financial audits, the prosecution of corruption and the corrupt and the return of all the displaced Syrians go home, unlike others from all Lebanese political parties.

ARMY COMMANDER CONGRATULATES MILITARY ON SUCCESSFUL TASK

Lebanese Armed Forces Commander, General Joseph Aoun, on Monday addressed the military and congratulated soldiers on their achievement providing security and order during the electoral process.

“It was the efforts that you’ve exerted and the responsibility that you’ve assumed, which provided a safe atmosphere to hold elections and to swiftly and professionally resolve problems,” General Aoun said.

“Despite the many crises that we’re going through, you were fully prepared to assume full responsibility and keep pace with the long election day with utmost awareness, wisdom, and discipline,” he added.

“Thanks to you, the democratic picture of this day has been completed. You have proven, once again, that you are worthy of trust, respect, and appreciation thanks to your will, steadfastness, and confidence in your institution and in your country,” the Army Commander concluded.

BETWEEN THE FORCES AND THE PARTY

According to a reading by journalist and researcher Sami Kleib, the results of the elections put Lebanon on the cusp of a founding conference, and that the forces and their allies at home and abroad will establish a remarkable balance with Hezbollah and its allies, either to engage in a radical joint dialogue, or Lebanon will face a greater danger. And when Kleib saw that the civil movement had achieved a good and limited breakthrough, but it needed to overcome its differences, he pointed out that the diversity of the Sunni environment, the advancement of forces and the steadfastness of socialism would give Saudi Arabia a greater opportunity against Iran for the purpose of understanding or quarreling.

The Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADE) said that its observers have detected "flagrant" violations, irregularities and flows in the parliamentary electoral process.

In its initial report on the elections, LADE also accused the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities of laxity in enforcing the laws, especially in light of many reported attacks on candidates, voters and delegates.

"What we observed during the election day was disappointing," the Association said.
