The State of Kuwait reaffirms its support for the national unity government in Libya

Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Sabah confirmed today, Tuesday, Kuwait's support for the government of national unity in Libya and its efforts to hold the elections scheduled for next December.

This came during a press conference held by Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nasser with the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Naglaa Al-Manqoush, as part of his visit at the head of a high-level delegation to Libya.

Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nasser said that he held cordial meetings in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, with the political leadership headed by the President of the Presidential Council, Dr. Muhammad Al-Manfi, Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Naglaa Al-Manqoush.

As for the talks with the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nasser clarified that they dealt with the overall close relations between the two brotherly countries in various fields and at all levels, and they dealt with ways to enhance and develop the joint bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, in addition to discussing the latest developments on the regional and international arenas and the developments they are witnessing. Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nasser expressed his hope that the first session of the joint committee for cooperation between the State of Kuwait and Libya would convene as soon as possible to conclude pivotal and important bilateral agreements that lay down sound legal frameworks to regulate relations between the two brotherly countries, indicating that 11 agreements and memoranda of understanding have been signed between the two countries in various vital areas. "We look forward to increasing it in a way that serves and fulfills the aspirations of the leadership and peoples of the two brotherly countries."

With regard to developments in Libya, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nasser said, "We have expressed the State of Kuwait's full support for the efforts of the Libyan government and the completion of the roadmap set by the United Nations in order to achieve the unity of the Libyan soil and maintain security and stability, leading to the electoral process scheduled to be held on December 24th."

He called on the international community to unify the positions behind the settlement efforts sponsored by the UN mission in Libya on its various political, constitutional and economic tracks to ensure the preservation of Libya's sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity and stability, and the security and prosperity of its brotherly people.

He explained that the talks also touched on the Arab and international presence and the reopening of embassies in Libya, in addition to bilateral cooperation during the (Corona) pandemic, adding, "We also paid tribute to Kuwait and renewed its support for the efforts made by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Jan Kubis, his predecessor, Ghassan Salame, and members of the mission." The United Nations and their assessed contributions. " He added, "The State of Kuwait affirms that the best way to achieve these goals lies through the full implementation of the relevant Security Council decisions and outputs, including 1973 - 2510 - 2570 - 2571 regarding the stability of Libya and support the national unity government in implementing its program."

On her part, the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Naglaa Al-Manqoush expressed her country's thanks to the State of Kuwait, the Amir, the government and the people, for the support of the Presidency Council and the government of national unity since the first days of granting confidence to them by the House of Representatives.

Al-Manqoush emphasized the strengthening of relations between the two countries and benefiting from the experience and expertise of the State of Kuwait in supporting the national unity government in development, construction and economic development in various fields.
