French President in a message to President Aoun upon independence: We are working with the UN and our partners to hold a conference in support of the Lebanese

Lebanon - French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed that "France stands today, as at all times, with Lebanon and the Lebanese people. Lebanese women and men in their diaries can count on France's support in meeting their urgent needs in the fields of food, health, education and housing. We are working, in cooperation with the United Nations and all of our partners, in order to hold an international conference in support of the Lebanese people".

President Macron also indicated that "The multifaceted crisis that Lebanon is going through, on various economic, financial and social levels, as well as political levels, calls for strong measures. The solutions are known: they lie in the necessity of putting into effect the roadmap that all political parties committed to on the first of September. This road map responds simultaneously to the requirements of Lebanon's sincere friends, as well as the legitimate expectations expressed by the Lebanese people”. President Macron also wished that the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, strongly calls on all political forces to set aside their personal, sectarian and factional interests for the sake of achieving Lebanon's supreme interest alone and in the interest of the Lebanese people”.

President Macron's words came in a message of congratulations on the seventy-seventh anniversary of independence, which he sent to President Aoun.

Message Text:

“On the occasion of Lebanon’s celebration of Independence Day, I am pleased to offer you, in my personal name and on behalf of the French people, the best feelings of friendship to you and to the Lebanese nation.

France is especially attached to the brotherly relations that unite our countries and peoples. France also attaches extreme importance to the independence and sovereignty of Lebanon. This country has always been an example of openness and freedom in the region. I was able to reaffirm this matter during the two visits I made past summer after the explosion of August 4.

I am deeply concerned as a result of the current situation in your country, and I am aware of the increasing difficulties facing the Lebanese in their daily lives. They can count on France’s support to meet their urgent needs in the fields of food, health, education and housing. We are working, in cooperation with the United Nations and all of our partners, to hold an international conference in support of the Lebanese people.

However, all of this is not enough, as the multifaceted crisis that Lebanon is going through, on various economic, financial, social, and political levels, calls for strong measures to be taken. The solutions are known: the road map that all political parties committed to on the first of September must be implemented. This road map answers the requirements of Lebanon's sincere friends, as well as the legitimate expectations expressed by the Lebanese people. Putting this map into practice alone will guarantee the mobilization of the international community to avoid the collapse of the country and help it adopt reforms that are inevitable for its resurgence.

Currently, the formation of a government of qualified personalities, who will be trusted and able to implement all these measures, is required. In this context, your Excellency the President, you have a special responsibility. Lebanon today faces enormous choices, and you are aware of this. What the Lebanese people demanded nearly a year ago during their uprising can still be achieved. And it is your duty as head of state to respond to them, and call strongly on all political forces to set aside their personal, sectarian and factional interests in order to achieve the supreme interest of Lebanon alone and the interest of the Lebanese people.

Your Excellency, you can be assured that France stands today, as at all times, with Lebanon and the Lebanese people".
