STRONG LEBANON: Implementing French Reform Plan first step toward reform, forensic audit of Central Bank accounts essential for combating corruption

27 Oct 2020

Lebanon - The Strong Lebanon parliamentary bloc held its periodic meeting, headed by MP Gebran Bassil, and issued a statement in the wake of the meeting stressing "the priority of saving the financial and economic situation, and putting into effect the reform plan set forth by the French initiative as an initial part of the comprehensive reform program."

The bloc underscored "the need to form a government quickly for this purpose," affirming its commitment to facilitating its birth while securing fairness towards all blocs and components.

"The Strong Lebanon bloc members bet on the success of the Aoun-Hariri consultations in terms of respecting the Charter and the Constitution, and the appointment of ministers who are able to quickly implement the reform program, through their competence, integrity, effectiveness, experience and knowledge of the affairs of the state and its sectors," according to the statement.

The bloc also affirmed its insistence on "conducting a forensic audit into the accounts of the Central Bank of Lebanon, as a starting point for the process of reform and combating corruption."
