SAMI Gemayel: We want Dialogue over key issues

23 Jun 2020

Lebanon - Kataeb Party chief, MP Sami Gemayel, on Tuesday called on President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, to place key issues on the table of dialogue, stressing that it should address the main topics of sovereignty, arms' control and devising an economic recovery plan that responds to the people's needs.

"We want a dialogue over the issues of restoring sovereignty, controlling arms, placing every weapon at the disposal of the army, and rejecting any military system outside the framework of the state," MP Gemayel said during a press conference on Tuesday.

"We want a dialogue over these headlines, rather than a dialogue that calls on people to remain silent," Gemayel said, adding "We are ready to attend a dialogue over issues that are the root causes of the problem."

Gemayel affirmed that the Kataeb Party is an advocate of dialogue and peace and wants a civilized country.

"We cannot but put the real problems on the table, rather than silencing the people, sedating them or making them forget their bitter reality."

The Lawmaker stressed that dialogue should also set an economic rescue plan that addresses the problems of the people unlike the plan currently witnessing conflict among the political sides.

Gemayel added that dialogue should also take up issues related to the re-emergence of authority, restoring decision to the people through holding parliamentary elections, and forming an independent government.
