18/11/2019

KUWAIT-- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Sabah reaffirmed no-one "whatsoever" would evade punishment related to public funds crimes, and said this file "will be under my personal attention," urging media and public to refrain from dealing with issues examined by judiciary.

"We reaffirm our relentless keenness on preserving public funds, and our commitment to protecting them, and affirm that no-one, no matter his position, will evade punishment if convicted in public funds crimes.

"There shall be no protection to a corrupt, and this file will have my personal attention," underlined His Highness the Amir.

He noted that Kuwait was a state of institutions and rule of law, whose constitution stated that "all people are equal in human dignity, and in public rights and duties before the law ... ." His Highness the Amir, who regretted exchange of accusations in media and social media which "are rejected by our faith and tradition of Kuwaiti people," affirmed that judiciary in Kuwait was independent and integral, and was respected by all.

He added that an issue was at the judiciary so "media should refain from dealing with this issue until a verdict is issued ... and it will be executed once issued." His Highness the Amir urged the people to "be wise and abide by values of our Kuwaiti society, which is keen on refraining from tarnishing people and their reputation, neither unleashing unfounded accusations."

His Highness the Amir reiterated commitment in freedom of speech and expression "but will not allow anything to undermine security and stability of the nation, or trigger a devastating chaos.

"I call upon my fellow citizens to be aware to interests of our dear nation, and protection of its security and stability, stand united against whoever tries to undermine national unity, stay away from assemblies that might deviate from their objectives and lead to chaos," said His Highness the Amir and urged them to learn lessons from others.

He hoped the new government would meet aspirations of the Kuwaiti people, a matter that required "serious cooperation" between the government, parliament and people.

His Highness the Amir said he was confident the Kuwaiti people were capable of overcoming all hardships towards national unity and achievements.
