Firefighters in New South Wales are preparing for another day of tough conditions as dry and windy weather sweeps across parts of the state. Sydney residents woke to a thick smoke haze across the city on Tuesday as a result of an out-of-control blaze burning in the Hawkesbury region. The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment warned the elderly and residents with respiratory conditions to stay indoors. The Rural Fire Service said fire danger ratings would be in place on Tuesday for the Greater Sydney, Greater Hunter, Illawarra, Central Ranges and Southern Ranges regions. In Queensland, high temperatures are expected to test firefighters as Toowoomba is forecast to reach 36 degrees, with about 70 fires continuing to burn across the state In South Australia, a statewide total fire ban was issued for Tuesday ahead of catastrophic fire danger on Wednesday. Adelaide is expected to see record-breaking temperatures when conditions peak
