Bushfires ease with rain, Israel Folau blames bushfires on same-sex marriage and abortion 18 Nov 2019, Firefighters got a much-needed reprieve over the weekend thanks to cooler temperatures and some rainfall in the far north of the state. Rural Fire Service spokesman James Morris said it was what they were hoping for after a week of unprecedented conditions where 250 homes were destroyed. With only the Gospers Mountain fire in Sydney's north-west at watch-and-act level, crews will continue to strengthen containment lines.
Conditions are expected to worsen later this week however, with a hot band of dry, warm and windy weather moving from central Australia to NSW. Folau says bushfires a warning from God Sacked Wallabies player Israel Folau has linked bushfires in NSW and Queensland to the legalisation of same-sex marriage and abortion. Speaking at the Truth of Jesus Christ Church in Kenthurst, Folau used a 12-minute sermon to warn the congregation that the natural disasters were no coincidence. "Look at how rampant these bushfires, these droughts, all these things have come in such a short period of time," he said. "It's only a little taste of God's judgement." Three teenagers have been arrested in relation to a grassfire which broke out in Sydney's south-west yesterday. A passing motorist alerted authorities to the fire which ignited in bushland off The Northern Road in Harrington Park around 5.30pm. Using information obtained from the public, police officers searched the nearby area and arrested two boys, aged 15 and 16, near Harrington Parkway. A third teen, aged 15, was arrested a short time later. Firefighters extinguished the bushfire by 6.15pm and the teenagers were taken to Narellan Police Station for interviews. Three mobile phones have been seized for forensic examination and all three boys are eligible to be dealt with under the Young Offender's Act. So far this Spring, six people have died and 530 homes have been destroyed by bushfires across the state. Berejiklian Premier Gladys Berejiklian said last week was a "huge wake up call" for NSW. Last month Emergency Services Minister David Elliott described the deliberate lighting of bushfires as a "bastard act". |
