Kuwaiti women service in diplomatic corps acclaimed

KUWAIT-- A number of Kuwaiti diplomats on Thursday commended the great and significant role played by Kuwaiti women serving in the diplomatic corps.

The rhetoric of praise came during a seminar themed "Role of the Kuwaiti women at the United Nations for security and peace," held at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Al-Sabah headquarters (the UN House).

Ambassador Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, in his statement, affirmed Kuwait's particular concern for the women role development and co-leadership of the society.

The Kuwaiti women have proven their ability in politics, economies and development, he said, also noting that they were the first, at the regional level, in attaining education and jobs, in addition to assuming key and decision making posts.

Kuwait Constitution stipulated the unwavering commitment to attaining gender equality and empowering the women (Article 29), which literally says that human beings are equal under the law in terms of duties and rights.

A large number of women has recently applied to be enrolled in the diplomatic corps, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad revealed, noting that the females' job seeker in the sector was larger than the proportion among men job seeker by 80 percent.

He has affirmed desire of many young women in following the ranks of those who have occupied senior posts, namely the ambassador Nabila Al-Mulla and the assistants of the foreign minister, Amal Al-Hamad and Reem Al-Khaled.

Kuwait development strategy (New Kuwait 2035) is in harmony with the approach toward women empowerment, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser added.

Meanwhile, Director of Saud Al-Nasser Diplomatic Institute Abdulaziz Al-Sharekh affirmed the women growing role in the diplomatic sphere.

For her part, ambassador Al-Mulla spoke in her statement about the UN efforts for establishing global peace, noting that the settlement of disputes is "a Kuwaiti culture that has been adopted by the people since a long time ago and portrayed in the country's foreign policy." Leila Bakr, the regional director for development coordination at Arab states, lauded the distinguished Kuwaiti pre-emptive diplomacy and the noticeable women role at this level.
