Tanya Plibersek will join Anthony Albanese for Labor leadership bid and may Chris Bowen will run

Tanya Plibersek is on Monday expected to officially launch her bid for Labor leadership following Bill Shorten’s surprise defeat on Saturday, joining Anthony Albanese as left faction rivals for the job. Mr Albanese fought for Labor leadership in 2013 but came in second. Mr Shorten, who will remain as interim leader until the new party head is confirmed, will reportedly support Ms Plibersek as a more palatable candidate for the right wing of the party. Chris Bowen has indicated he will put his hand up to run for leadership, with Jim Chalmers also a possibility.
