MORE THAN $6 MILLION TO SUPPORT COPTIC COMMUNITY

MORE THAN $6 MILLION TO SUPPORT COPTIC COMMUNITY

19 March 2019

Western Sydney seniors and their families will benefit from an 80 bed aged care facility and 24 independent units thanks to the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

The NSW Coptic Diocese will receive more than $6 million to build the St. Maurice Aged Care facility — an investment made possible thanks to the strong economic management of the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

Minister for Multiculturalism Ray Williams said the NSW Government is committed to combatting social isolation amongst seniors, including providing specific services for multicultural communities.

“The NSW Coptic Diocese will build St. Maurice Aged Care, an 80 bed facility and 24 independent units to meet the needs of the ageing population in Western Sydney,” Mr Williams said.

“I’m proud local families and seniors will benefit from the new aged care facility, which will provide quality care and culturally sensitive support for our seniors.”

His Grace Bishop Daniel said the community was grateful for the funding from the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

“The new aged care facility will welcome seniors from across Western Sydney and will help keep them close to their families and community,” Bishop Daniel said.

Liberal candidate for Blacktown Allan Green said the funding recognises the achievements of the Coptic Orthodox community in Western Sydney.

“This is a significant investment for the community and the investment will offer specialist services in clinical care, home care, dementia care services and recreational programs,” Mr Green said.

There are more than 30,000 members of the Coptic Orthodox community in Western Sydney.

$2 MILLION TO SUPPORT MELKITE COMMUNITY

18 March 2019

The Melkite community in Western Sydney will benefit from a new community hall and car parking for the St. Elias Melkite Catholic Church, thanks to the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

Minister for Multiculturalism Ray Williams said the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has committed more than $2 million over four years for the Melkite Catholic community to begin construction on the important community facility.

“For the last few years, the Melkite community has been without a home and members have to attend mass at other parishes across Sydney,” Mr Williams said.

“The much anticipated St Elias Melkite Catholic Church will include two community halls, underground parking and storage facilities.”

His Eminence Bishop Robert Rabbat said the community was grateful for the funding from the NSW Liberal & Nationals Government.

“The new community hall will enable greater support for our youth and senior programs provided to the community in Western Sydney,” Bishop Rabbat said.

“The Melkite Church by its nature is an inclusive and multicultural group – with members coming from Lebanon, Egypt, Syria and Iraq.”

Liberal candidate for Granville Tony Issa said the funding demonstrated the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government’s commitment to supporting multicultural communities.

“I am proud that the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is supporting the Melkite Community to build a community hall that will be used for many generations to come,” Mr Issa said.

“The site will be more than a Church, aimed at engaging the community and encouraging younger people to be active citizens in their community.”

Over the last year, the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has provided more than $23 million to multicultural communities.
