FEREZLI: Syria's Should be Invited to Economic Summit

14 Jan 2019

Lebanon Deputy Speaker of the House, Elie Ferezli, said in an interview on Monday with the "Voice of Lebanon" radio station, that Syria's invitation to the Economic Summit should take place, adding that the decision was not in the hands of the President of the Lebanese Republic.

With regards to the formation of the government, Ferezli indicated that it is no longer justified to keep the Sunni ministerial portfolio in the hands of the Head of State, and that this portfolio should go back to the Prime Minister-designate responsible for the government formation.

Lastly, he called for the use of the democratic parliamentary system for the formation of a majority government that reflects the will of the parliamentary majority.

Lebanon - Outgoing Minister of Social Affairs, Pierre Bou Assi, said Monday that the absence of a government is a comprehensive national crisis that affects all the Lebanese of any political or religious affiliation.

Speaking to the Orient Radio, the minister called for separating between the holding of the Arab economic summit, the case of Imam Moussa Sadr and the formation of the government.

Regarding Bkirki's call for a meeting of Maronite leaders next Wednesday, the minister said that "the Maronite Patriarchate expresses its apprehensions when the country, its institutions and constitutional practices are threatened."
