MULTICULTURAL Victorians Condemn Any ACT of Violence

12 November, 2018

Victorians are shocked and saddened by the violent events that took place in the city last Friday. Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) together with all Victorians condemns this senseless act and any act of violence.

As a community we mourn the attacks against two bystanders and the murder of local coffee shop co-owner and proud Italian, Sisto Malaspina, one of the pioneers of Melbourne’s thriving coffee culture.

ECCV Chairperson, Cr. Kris Pavlidis affirms “It is incumbent upon all Victorians to come together to ensure our proud multicultural state is a safe place for the whole community.

ECCV urges politicians to concentrate their media narrative on the core issues; mental health and well-being, and community engagement. We must shift our focus and work together to create a safe and inclusive community.

ECCV stands in solidarity with the Victorian Somali community and acknowledges the contributions made to our vibrant multicultural state.

All Victorians value our way of life, our diversity and our generosity of spirit. We recognise the bravery of the community who responded to this unacceptable and tragic incident.”

ECCV Chairperson, Cr. Kris Pavlidis emphasises “we are committed to continue our advocacy for increased supports for a cohesive community.”
