Four Arab countries stand by Saudi Arabia

15/10/2018

KUWAIT-- Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates on Sunday expressed solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the face of "baseless hostile campaigns." In Abu-Dhabi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the UAE is against all attempts to undermine Saudi Arabia's "regional stature and fundamental role in establishing regional peace and security." He expressed profound appreciation for the distinguishing position of the Kingdom as a major power ensuring security and stability in the Arab and Muslim worlds, commending all the constructive initiatives and policies adopted by the Kingdom to underpin regional and international peace and development. "The UAE's support for the Kingdom in weal and woe stems from the true brotherly bonds between the two countries," WAM quoted Sheikh Abdullah as saying in a statement.

He noted that the fierce and politicised campaign led against the Kingdom ignores the constructive and reasoned policy of Saudi Arabia. "The anti-Saudi campaign will not impinge on the Kingdom's central role in the region which is rooted in logic and moderation," he said. "As necessity now arises to clarify the facts associated with this crisis in a neutral and honest manner, we reaffirm our categorical rejection of the repercussions of the politicised anti-Saudi campaign." Sheikh Abdullah reiterated the UAE's unequivocal stance with Saudi Arabia in whatever policies it sets and tremendous efforts it exerts to counter the various risks and threats besetting the international community, particularly extremism and terrorism.

The UAE also supports Saudi Arabia's relentless efforts to strengthen international political, economic and security cooperation, using its substantial resources and potential to enhance peace and stability across the world, he added.

In Muscat, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Stemming from the strong fraternal relations with the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate followed up with interest the statement issued today by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs." "While supporting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its efforts to clarify truth, the Sultanate calls on all interested parties not to rush into premature judgements," according to a statement issued by the Ministry and carried by ONA.

In Beirut, the Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia in the face of hostile campaigns.

"Saudi Arabia is one of the main countries trusted with the stability of the region," according to a statement by Al-Hariri's office.

The campaigns targeting the Kingdom are a threat to the region's security that could drag the region into more instability, he added Meanwhile, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Egypt stands by sisterly Saudi Arabia in its efforts to deal with the issue of the disappearance of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The Ministry warned, in a statement, against political manipulation of the issue through issuing groundless accusations against the Kingdom.

It highlighted the need of a thorough and transparent investigation to reveal truth without jumping about the investigations or issuing baseless accusations.

In Amman, Minister of State for Media Affairs Jumana Ghniemat said Jordan is standing by Saudi Arabia against any rumors and campaigns targeting the Kingdom without being based on facts. Ghniemat, also government spokesperson, voiced Jordan's support of the Saudi position, stressing the need of reason and wisdom in the quest for the truth.

She underlined Saudi Arabia's central efforts and leading role in establishing security, stability and peace and enhancing economic cooperation in the region and the world, according to Jordan news agency Petra.

The minister underscored the strategic relations between the two countries and expressed Jordan's rejection of any targeting of Saudi Arabia and its role and status in the Arab and Islamic world.
