TA’IF: His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tareq al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, took part in the closing ceremony of the Camel Festival in Ta’if on Saturday evening in response to an invitation from Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, Crown Prince, First Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of Saudi Arabia.

During his meeting with Prince Mohammed bin Salman, HH Sayyid Asaad conveying the greetings of His Majesty to King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud along with his best wishes of good health and long life to the king and the friendly Saudi people further progress and prosperity. His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman asked HH Sayyid Asaad to convey the king’s greetings to His Majesty wishing him good health and well-being and the Omani people further progress and prosperity.

HH Sayyid Asaad and his delegation were received upon arrival at the Ta’if International Airport by Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz al Saud, Minister of Interior, and a number of officials and members of the Sultanate’s embassy in Saudi Arabia.

Oman condemns terror attack on military parade in Iran

Muscat: The Sultanate has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a military parade in the Iran’s southwestern city of Ahvaz on Saturday that killed 29 people and injured 57 others.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) affirmed the Sultanate’s attitude which condemns all forms of terrorism and violence regardless of the reasons.

The Sultanate expressed condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and the friendly Iranian people wishing the injured speedy recovery

At least 29 people have been killed and 53 wounded after unknown gunmen opened fire at a military parade in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz, state television reported.

Those killed included members of the Revolutionary Guard and women and children who had come to watch the parade, the Iranian state-run IRNA news agency said.

Ali Hosein Hoseinzadeh, deputy governor in Khuzestan province, said that two attackers were killed and another two were arrested.

“Several gunmen began shooting from behind the stand during the parade. There are several killed and injured,” a correspondent told state television.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the assault which saw gunfire spray into a crowd of marching Guardsmen, bystanders and government officials watching from a nearby riser.

Sayyida Mona wins award for voluntary work

MANAMA: Her Highness Dr Sayyida Mona bint Fahd al Said, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University, has won the HH Sheikh Isa bin Ali al Khalifa’s Award for Voluntary Work. HH Sayyida Mona, along with 14 other volunteering pioneers, won the award in recognition for her voluntary efforts and for spreading the culture of voluntary work over the past number of years.
