Sharing knowledge with Asian bodies vital for audit bureau - Al-Sarawi

19/09/2018

KUALA LUMPUR-- Sharing knowledge with Asian audit bodies is crucial to boost the work of Kuwait's State Audit Bureau (SAB), said SAB's acting President Adel Al-Sarawi.

Al-Sarawi's statement was made to KUNA on Wednesday, on the sidelines of SAB's participation in the 14th session of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), held in Vietnam.

During its participation in the meeting, the bureau aims to present its contributions to boosting the abilities and skills of different bodies locally and regionally, through taking part in several research-related projects, hosting ASOSAI's seminars and organizing workshops, Al-Sarawi said.

He added that SAB will present a research paper titled "Environmental Audit for Sustainable Development" which will shed light on the bureau's experience in auditing and monitoring environment-related activities and auditing projects on partnership between the public and private sectors.

Meanwhile, the president said the bureau is set to run elections for ASOSAI's Board of Directors 2018-21. To rally support for the elections and boost cooperation, SAB held meetings with heads of audit bureaus of Turkey, Thailand, Japan, Bangladesh and the Maldives, he added.

SAB became a member in ASOSAI in 1984 and was a member of the Board of Directors and the training committee for two consecutive terms from 1997 to 2003 and also for another two consecutive terms from 2006 to 2012.

Vietnam is hosting ASOSA's meeting themed "Environmental Audit for Sustainable Development" for the first time ever. The event, held from 19-22 September, is attended by about 250 people from 46 audit bureaus in Asia, as well as representatives from the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (Intosai) and other international organizations.

This year's meeting will discuss the report of ASOSAI's General Secretariat, financial data for 2015-17 and budget for 2019-21.

It will also discuss auditing the ability of governments in executing the sustainable development goals, key environmental issues and other topics affecting sustainable development.
