Would Lebanon end its work with UNHCR because of the obstruction of the Refugees Return file?

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil announced his intention to take the first action by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry against the UNHCR, which is responsible of one and a half million Syrian refugees return to Syria, stressing that the measures will be escalated.

"The UNHCR faces the Lebanese policy refusing the displaced Syrians settlement and integration in Lebanon. The process continued despite our warning and therefore I announced from tomorrow to take the first action against the Commission," He said.

"We declare our determination to break the will of those who prevent the displaced return. This story is a story of national unity. The Sunnis in Akkar are suffering more than the Maronite in Batroun. The Syrian is suffering more than everyone else and we have to heal each other," He added.

"The return of the displaced Syrians will take place in stages. The first of which is political and the second is operational logistics," according to information provided by MTV channel. "the Lebanese official escalation towards the Syrian displacement crisis might come to considering the UNHCR presence undesirable and cutting off work with it", according to the same source.

"Major General Abbas Ibrahim has assigned officers to monitor the work of UNHCR staff to find out who hinders the return of displaced persons to their homes.”

"The UNHCR's monitoring of the crisis shows that it is against their return," Ambassador Ghadi Khoury told Al-Jadeed channel,  noting that they have submitted a memorandum to know its plan on this file in a period not exceeding two weeks.

Ferzli: International intention against displaced people's return to Syria

Lebanon - "The international intention is against the return of displaced people to Syria," Deputy Speaker of the House, Elie Ferzli, said in an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station - 93.3, calling for "confronting such an intention with a unified Lebanese will rejecting the position of the international community."

"The Lebanese action in this regard must continue without a ceiling," he said.

Tackling the government formation issue, he stressed that "there is no delay in the formation of the government as that often took time."

He denied "the existence of political differences that could make the process of formation lengthy," ruling out "internal factors' effect on the formation process."

"The main effective factor would be external as it can give the internal factor a greater dimension, and thus be responsible for the delay if it happened," Ferzli said.
